From Stills to Stories: The Rise of Tuesday Club Studios
The evolution of a mature student photography group into Tuesday Club Studios, a film production collective making their cinematic debut with the projects Old Souls and Lessons Learnt.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but for a talented group of photographers at the City of Portsmouth College, a thousand words weren’t enough. They wanted a script.
When I was first called in to help a local photography group transition into the world of moving images, I didn’t realise I was joining the birth of a brand-new production powerhouse: Tuesday Club Studios (TCS).
The Journey of ‘Old Souls’
Our first mission was ambitious. We set out to film Old Souls, a project that took us to some of Portsmouth’s most iconic and atmospheric locations. From the historic decks of HMS Warrior at the Dockyard to the imposing heights of Fort Nelson and the vibrant atmosphere of Sant Yago restaurant, the team didn’t just take photos—they captured the soul of the city.
Watching a group of photographers adapt their ‘eye’ for composition into the flow of cinematography was incredible. The transition was seamless, and the energy on set was electric.
The ‘Lessons Learnt’ Bonus
Things moved so quickly and efficiently during the Old Souls production that we realised we had more stories to tell. Instead of packing up the gear, we headed back to where it all began—the college—to film a second project: ‘Lessons Learnt’.
It’s rare to see a group work with such speed without sacrificing quality. It was a testament to the chemistry of the ‘Class of ’25’ and the passion they brought to every frame.
More Than Just a Project
What started as a college assignment has evolved into something permanent. The group officially formed Tuesday Club Studios because they recognised that the ‘Tuesday Club’ wasn’t just a meeting time—it was a creative identity they wanted to keep building.
As for me and the team at Film Crew 4U, it’s been an absolute privilege to provide the technical support, filming, and editing to help bring these visions to life. This is exactly why we do what we do: empowering the community to tell their stories through film.
What’s Next?
The cameras have stopped rolling, and the editing suite is buzzing. The premieres for both Old Souls and Lessons Learnt are coming soon! Keep your eyes on this space for dates, venues, and a look behind the scenes of how we turned a photography group into a film crew.
